Fierce advocates of changing the landscape of live performance, 1 East will be presenting the New York premiere of A Distant Wind, a multi-media work that captures nature in its beautiful, serene, and tumultuous settings. Originally inspired by music of the same name by Terry Champlin, the group set out to create a visual accompaniment to the composer’s evocative melodies. Soon, however, the quartet felt the project growing: “As I studied the music, I began to think about wind as a metaphor for the passing of time, the brevity of life, and the spiritual choices we make during our stay on earth,” says J. Andrew Dickenson, who served as Artistic Director for the project. “I thought it would be interesting to explore these ideas in a larger context with other composers, poetry, and art forms.” Dickenson composed a short piece and added music by Andrew York and David Pritchard, then divided the music into seven movements that are portrayed by quotes from poets such as T.S. Eliot and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. With stunning video by Boom Design Group to weave everything together, the result is a dramatic multi-media experience that will leave the audience in awe. The concert will also feature music ranging from Renaissance masters to contemporary masterpieces by cutting-edge composers. More information about 1 East can be found at: www.1EastGQ.com |
